About the Turtle Flambeau Flowage and area surrounding it:
The Turtle-Flambeau Scenic Waters Area encompasses the 14,000-acre Turtle Flambeau Flowage. The Flowage contains 16 natural lakes, 195 islands and 114 miles of winding shoreline of which 95% is in public ownership. The Turtle-Flambeau has often been compared to a “Canadian” wilderness experience without having to travel to Canada.
In 1992, the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage was officially designated a protected wilderness area, ensuring its rugged beauty, pristine waters, natural wildlife and unspoiled wild character will remain.
The Turtle-Flambeau Flowage has 60 remote campsites if you prefer to venture out and rough it for a couple nights away from the cabin.
Wildlife:
The Turtle-Flambeau Flowage and surrounding area abounds with a wide variety of wildlife. From the once endangered Trumpeter Swans to Osprey and Bald Eagles that are now common residents to the Turtle-Flambeau and surrounding area. Loons are abundant on the flowage and can be viewed frequently swimming in front of the cabin. Their haunting sounds can be heard as night sets in.
